Goldie Harvey. Part 1 : CODING

The Nigerian Says:

My country people how una dey?

I no sai this one come late, Abeg make una no too vex, na too much suffer head been dey hold this entity back. No vex Abeg.

Ehe! Oya! to the matter at hand:

Most of us are familiar with the singer Goldie Harvey. For all those that do not know her, Goldie was a Nigerian singer that was on BBA and passed away on the 14th of February 2013, sadly at a young age (29). she had just released a new song "Skibobo" and even attended the Grammy. It was after her return from the Grammy's that she died. Not only was it unexpected, so many unknown details about her started emerging. The most shocking detail about her was, her last name Harvey was not just a stage name, it was actually her husband's surname. Goldie was married!. How she managed to hide keep it private, for a long time is amazing. I don't have issues with her or anybody for hiding keeping your personal life personal, but please excuse me, sister, unto parading around with a different man, and claiming that you are single? This brings me to the trending thing amongst Nigerians : coding.

According to this entity, coding is when a woman or man is in a serious relationship, but keeps it away from the public eyes. Usually only his or her close friends are aware of his or her relationship.

It's not a bad thing to keep your private life private, but to what extent? when I asked around, I found out that most girls do it for various reasons :

1. Bros dey fumble. le boo is not behaving the way he should

2. Sister get other plans. it's until you get pregnant for someone else...

3. Sister no wan make  everyone know.

Most guys nko? " eh, you have to look around to you know, see if there is a better fish out there...." Tah! better fish? which better fish?

And the list goes on. I understand the need to keep your relationship private especially since it's not really our culture to parade with a le boyfriend and a le girlfriend before marriage, but the one way tire me na it baffles me when, a married woman or man codes. I'm like why? No, Aunty, Uncle, Sista, Broda,Why?

Why should you act single? let's say you did not tell anyone you were married, you did not see a need to, is that reason enough to fool around with another man/ woman?

In Abuja, I had this uncle that removes his wedding ring whenever Madam travels. Uncle will then go out and come back late, what uncle is doing outside until 3:00am na im know, but the thing remains that, if Madam should catch Uncle it will be terrible, the man may have been working ukpa na today nyash dey for back,  but that's not the issue, the issue is that, he removed his wedding ring.

Goldie never wore a wedding band out, she did not mention anything about her husband, if it was a guy that did that to a woman, ha! enough said.

But on a serious note, to what extent can a significant other code?

ps: The Nigerian does not have anything against Goldie Harvey. The Nigerian is also aware that many Nigerian actors do the same coding .. ehe.

OK Bye!
